There are a few things that you can do for tree damage prevention and winter preparation. We’ve outlined them below:

Mulching will help conserve moisture in the soil, promote a natural rate of evaporation, and regulate soil temperature year-round. This is great for tree damage prevention and winter preparation because it helps protect the roots by conserving moisture. If mulching is something you’d like to provide your trees, consider applying mulch soon. For further instruction, read “HOW TO MULCH YOUR TREES…”, our August 2017 blog post.

You may also want to prune out dead and broken branches that you can reach from the ground. Pruning dead and broken branches helps with tree damage prevention and winter preparation because it makes room for new growth and removes potentially hazardous branches that may otherwise get broken off in a snow storm. However, one thing you will definitely need an arborist for is to check your trees for structural weaknesses – you may have an at-risk tree that needs the extra help to stay happy and healthy through these potentially-damaging seasons.

For at-risk trees, cables and brace rods can be applied to reduce the risk of weak branches or multiple stems from failing. Cabling and bracing systems limit the movement of the supported stems and branches so that they are less likely to fail during storms due to activities such as wind, snow, and ice. BUGG TREE CARE is happy to help with this.
